Setting up UDP Technology IPE/NVC devices for PTZ support

Resource Image

UDP Technology IPE/NVC devices support both Direct and Pass-through PTZ. This FAQ explains how to set them up.

Direct PTZ support -The client communicates with the device using the appropriate proprietary PTZ protocol, and the device translates these to the protocol specified in the device's configuration and forwards them to the integrated PTZ telemetry unit. This setting is typically used for combined IP cameras and PTZ devices.

Pass-Through PTZ support - The client communicates with the device using the appropriate proprietary PTZ protocol, and the device forwards them to the connected PTZ telemetry unit. This setting is typically used when an IP camera or video encoder is connected to an analog video camera and PTZ telemetry unit via a serial cable and analog video cable.

Switching to HTTP

To use any PTZ functionality with a UDP Technology device, you must first switch the device's web server to use HTTP.

Caution: If you do not switch to HTTP, the device status will be incorrectly shown as unavailable, and PTZ controls will not function.

  1. Enter the IP address of the device into a web browser, and log in to the device. The default login name is root and the default password is pass.
  2. Click Setup, then Basic Configuration and Web Server.
  3. Under Web Server, select HTTP and click Apply. You are prompted to restart the web server - select OK.

Configuring for Direct PTZ Support

You must configure both the server and the PTZ device itself.

Use the following server settings for the associated PTZ of the required input:

Direct PTZ 1

  • Protocol - Direct
  • PTZ Address - 1 (the address for the associated PTZ device on the Serial bus).

Direct PTZ Device Configuration
Note:The device may have been shipped with the following settings, in which case you do not need to change any of them.

  1. Enter the IP address of the device into a web browser, and log in to the device. The default login name is root and the default password is pass.
  2. Set the following:
  • Type: Internal RS485-PTZ
  • PTZ Protocol: The protocol supported by the connected PTZ device.
  • Baud Rate/Data/Parity/Stop/Flow Control: As supported by the connected PTZ device.

Direct PTZ 2

Configuring for Pass-through PTZ Support

You must configure both the server and the PTZ device itself.

Use the following server settings for the associated PTZ of the required input:

PassPTZ1

  • Protocol - Protocol supported by the PTZ device connected to the device.
  • PTZ Address - 1 (the address for the associated PTZ device on the Serial bus).

Pass-through PTZ Device Configuration

The device should be configured as follows:

  1. Enter the IP address of the device into a web browser, and log in to the device. The default login name is root and the default password is pass.
  2. Click Setup, then IO Configuration and UART.
  3. Set the following:

PassPTZ2

  • Type: Internal RS485-AUX
  • Baud Rate/Data/Parity/Stop/Flow Control: as supported by the connected PTZ device.
