How do I configure a UDP Technology IPE/NVC device to send TCP alarms?

Resource Image

UDP Technology IPE/NVC devices provide several methods of sending alarm notifications (via “subscription”), including multicast and TCP. This FAQ shows how to ensure that alarms sent out using TCP are correctly configured, and therefore correctly received by appropriate clients on the network.

Step 1 - Web Server Settings

Before adding the UDP Technology device to the client software, you must switch the device's web server settings to HTTP.

Caution: If you do not switch to HTTP, the device status will be incorrectly shown as unavailable, and PTZ controls will not function.

  1. Enter the IP address of the device into a web browser, and log in to the device.
  2. The default login name is root and the default password is pass. Click Setup, then Basic Configuration and Web Server.
  3. Under Web Server, select HTTP and click Apply. You are prompted to restart the web server - select OK.

Step 2 - Enable Subscription for TCP Events

To receive Device Input, Motion Detection and VCA events from the device, you must enable TCP event subscription for these event types.

  1. Click Event Configuration, then the type of event you want to configure. In the example below, motion detection alarms are being configured.
  2. Check Post notification message under Subscriber - TCP. Ensure that you do not alter the port or address for the TCP event by mistake.
  3. Click Apply.

TCP subscribe

Remember to repeat this process for each required event type.
